The San Diego State women's tennis team concluded its season on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Championships. The 10th-seeded Aztecs fell to second-seeded New Mexico, 4-0 at the Fort Collins Country Club. SDSU finishes the season with a 7-17 mark on the year.
In doubles play Andrea Leblanc and Rachana Bhat topped Tami Nguyen and Kennedy Davis in the second spot, 6-4. On court No. 3 Dora Somoracz and Olivia Larsson combined to defeat Sharon Coone and Ludivine Burguiere, 7-5. The point would be decided in the top spot where Jana Buth and Paola Diaz de Regules battled Emily Olivier and Dominique Dolski. Despite the Aztec duo taking the match to a tiebreaker, the Lobos came out ahead and claimed the point, 7-6 (7-4).
In singles action Olivier got past Buth in the second position, 6-4, 6-3, to give New Mexico a 2-0 lead. On court No. 3, Burguiere defeated Davis, 6-4, 6-3, to put the Lobos up 3-0. SDSU had hopes of replicating Thursday's rally, after they came back from 3-0 to take the win. In the top spot, facing a three-point deficit, Nguyen took the first set over Leblanc but dropped the second. The match went into three sets with the Lobo prevailing, 6-7 (7-4), 6-2, 6-3.
San Diego State finishes the season with a 7-17 record which included five wins over California schools, an upset of No. 48 Minnesota and a first-round upset of seventh-seeded Nevada in the league championships.
