SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State women's golf team received word of its postseason destination on Monday when the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Committee announced the Aztecs will compete in the NCAA Stanford Regional, May 5-7, in Stanford, Calif. SDSU garnered the No. 6 seed for its sixth regional berth in the last seven years and 13th overall since the regional format was launched in 1993.

The Aztecs, who earned an at-large bid after finishing second at the Mountain West Championship on April 20, will be joined on the par-71, 6,269-yard Stanford Golf Course in order of seed by USC, Arkansas, host Stanford, Virginia, UNLV, Texas Tech, Ohio State, Colorado, Wake Forest, Michigan State, North Carolina, Pepperdine, San José State, UC Riverside, Idaho, Richmond and Seton Hall.

The field also includes six individuals who will compete for the right to advance to the NCAA Championships, featuring two golfers from the Mountain West in Kristin Simonsen of Fresno State and Colorado State's Katrina Prendergast, along with Kassidy Teare of Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton's Martina Edberg, as well as Andrea Wong and Paige Lee of UC Davis.

In addition to SDSU, UNLV and San José State, the MW's fourth team invitation was extended to New Mexico, which will participate in the Baton Rouge Regional at LSU's University Club in Baton Rouge, La. Meanwhile, the two remaining regional championships will be conducted at the Shoal Creek Club in Shoal Creek, Ala., and the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas, with Alabama and Texas A&M serving as host schools, respectively.

The Aztecs will play 18 holes each of the three days, following a practice round on Wednesday, May 4. The top six squads and three lowest individuals not on those teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, scheduled for May 20-25, at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.

This year marks San Diego State's ninth trip to regional competition as a team and represents the 13th time the program has sent at least one golfer to the regional round since the format was established in 1993.

The Aztecs ended a six-year absence from the NCAAs in 2010, when the squad finished 13th at the Central Regional in Columbus, Ind. SDSU also posted a 17th-place showing at the 2011 West Regional in Auburn, Wash., followed by a tie for 20th at the 2012 East Regional in State College, Pa.

The Aztecs missed out on a team berth in 2013, but qualified three individuals, Paige Spiranac, Christine Wong, Emma Henrikson, to the Central Regional in Norman, Okla. In 2014, the Aztecs received an at-large bid as a team once again, tying for the 21st position in the West Regional at Suncadia Resort's Tumble Creek course in Cle Elum, Wash. Last year, San Diego State posted its highest team finish in regional action, landing in the 11th position at the Entrada at Snow Canyon Resort in St. George, Utah.

The Aztecs, who are aiming for their first-ever national championship appearance as a team, are currently ranked 21st nationally by Golfstat and are 18th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings.
