ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - San Diego State will look to work its way back into the Mountain West race when it opens a three-game series at New Mexico with a game tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the Lobos' Santa Ana Star Field.
The Lobos enter the weekend with a record of 27-12 overall and 14-4 in the Mountain West where they sit in first place in the league standings. UNM is coming off a split of a pair of home contests against No. 7 Texas Tech earlier this week.
New Mexico catcher Chris DeVito tops the club in hitting with a .417 batting average along with 15 doubles, 11 home runs and 49 run batted in. His average is second in the conference heading into the weekend while his 63 hits as well as his RBI and home runs total lead the league.
The Lobos are expected to start junior left-hander Carson Schneider (6-1, 3.76) on the mound this evening.
San Diego State's record stands at 11-23 (4-8 MW) after its 5-1 win over UC Irvine on Tuesday at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
Redshirt freshman Harrison Pyatt (0-3, 3.69) will make his ninth start of the season tonight. Pyatt has been one of SDSU's most consistent hurlers, but has yet to record a victory in 2016.
Shortstop Alan Trejo remains the lone Aztec with an overall batting average over the .300 mark as his .333 leads the team as do his 48 hits and 20 runs batted in.
San Diego State and New Mexico will continue this weekend's serie on Saturday with a contest slated to get underway at 2:00 p.m. (MT) in Albuquerque.
