SAN DIEGO -
On Wednesday afternoon, the San Diego State women's tennis team held its final home match of the regular season. The Aztecs played host to University of San Diego while celebrating Senior Day to honor the three departing upperclassmen. SDSU was unable to put together enough points, falling to the Toreros, 4-1.
Doubles play got the day underway with Shani Blecher and Colomba DiFilippo defeating Tami Nguyen and Kennedy Davis in the third spot, 6-3. On court No. 2, Drew Spinosa and Dana Oppinger topped Isabelle Hoorn and Taylor Lederman, 6-1, to claim the point. The match on the second court was left unfinished as the point was decided.
In singles action, Lederman fell to DiFilippo, 6-2, 6-2, to give USD its second point. In the third spot, Spinosa got past Paola Diaz de Regules, 6-2, 6-1. In the fourth position, Davis gave the Aztecs life as she downed Maria-Paula Torres, 6-4, 6-4. With San Diego only needing one of the remaining three points to clinch the decision, Marta Stojanovic proved to be the Torero to step up. Despite rallying to take the second set after dropping the first, Nguyen could not close out her match in the top spot, falling to Stojanovic, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. The remaining matches on courts No. 2 and 5 were left unfinished with the overall winner decided.
