SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team ventures to Las Vegas this weekend for a pair of Mountain West matches. The Aztecs will take on Air Force in a neutral site duel at UNLV on Fri., April 22 at 3 p.m. The Scarlet and Black then faces the Rebels on Sat., April 23 at 1 p.m.
Air Force (6-15, 1-3 MW) secured its first Mountain West win with a 4-2 home victory over Fresno State on Fri., April 15. Freshman Isaac Perez earned his team-best 10th dual match win of the year against the Bulldogs, going 5-1 in the No. 5 spot this season. Tadhg Collins and Jack McCullers comprise Air Force's top doubles pair with a perfect 3-0 mark against conference foes.
The Rebels (9-9, 3-2 MW) are coming off of losses at then-No. 56 Utah State and then-No. 60 Boise State. Alexandr Cozbinov leads the team from the No. 2 spot with a 12-5 mark in dual match play. The doubles pair of Ruben Alberts and Jakob Amilon have won their last two matches in the top spot with a flawless 4-0 record against Mountain West opponents.
The Aztecs (8-12, 3-1 MW) are coming off of a thrilling regular season home finale, topping then-No. 57 Utah State, 4-3, on Sun., April 17. Milen Ianakiev clinched SDSU's third Mountain West victory of the season, coming from behind to notch his eighth dual match win. Hendrik Jebens also won his match, earning his team-leading ninth dual match singles victory this season. The Scarlet and Black secured the doubles point thanks to its top two pairings. Santiago Cevallos and Ianakiev improved their mark to 6-5, while Jebens and Sander Gjoels-Andersen moved to 6-5.
Following the regular season matches, San Diego State will return to Las Vegas for the Mountain West Tournament. The Tournament begins on Fri., April 29 with the championship match slated for Sun., May 1.
