SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State will make a brief stop at home in between weekend road series when it hosts UC Irvine tonight at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
The Anteaters enter the day with a record of 20-12 after dropping two of three games at No. 17 Long Beach State this past weekend. They will be looking to avenge a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Aztecs in Irvine during the second week of the 2016 season.
UCI is expected to send junior right-hander Chris Vargas (1-0, 2.60) to the mound to make his first start of the campaign after nine relief appearances.
San Diego State (10-23), meanwhile, will be looking to end a three-game skid after being swept during last weekend's series at No. 10 Texas Tech.
During that series in Lubbock, SDSU faced tough opposing pitching as it was held to three runs and a .196 batting average over the three contests.
Shortstop Alan Trejo went 5-for-11 with a triple during the series to raise his team-leading average to .345. Tyler Adkison record four hits (including a double) in 12 at bats vs. the Red Raiders.
The Aztecs will start junior left-hander Dominic Purpura (0-1, 4.91) in tonight's contest vs. UC Irvine.
Following this evening's game, SDSU will be back on the road for its next four contests including a three-game series at New Mexico this weekend (April 22-24) and a game at Long Beach State next Tuesday (April 26).
The Aztecs will return home on April 29 to begin a three-game series against Mountain West foe Nevada at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
