LUBBOCK, Texas - Three Texas Tech pitchers combined to shut out the Aztecs on six hits as the Red Raiders recorded an emphatic 10-0 win over San Diego State Saturday afternoon at Dan Law Field in Lubbock, Texas.
Alan Trejo had three hits including a triple while teammate Tyler Adkison two singles as the duo combined to account for five of SDSU's six hits in the contest. Center fielder Chase Calabuig had SDSU's other hit, a double to right field, but the visitors were unable to push a run across the plate.
The Red Raiders (28-9) opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the second and added two more in the fourth to open a 4-0 lead.
All four of those runs came against Aztec starter Marcus Reyes, who went 3.1 innings allowing those runs on seven hits with a walk and two strikeouts. He would be charged with the loss to fall to 0-4 on the season.
Texas Tech freshman right-hander Ryan Shetter (3-1), meanwhile, was shutting out SDSU during his 5.2 innings. He surrendered just three hits with a walk while striking out two as he recorded his third win of the year.
The Red Raiders firmly established control of the contest by scoring six times in the bottom of the fifth. That outburst included a pair of home runs, triple, double, single, two walks and a hit batter that came against Aztec relievers Adrian Orozco and Jordon Wyke.
That would mark the end of the scoring in the contest as SDU hurlers Tyler Loptien, Dominic Purpura and Zack Oakley tossed one shutout inning apiece to close out the game.
San Diego State and Texas Tech will wrap up their series on Sunday, April 17, with a game scheduled to get underway at 11:30 a.m. (CT) in Lubbock.
