SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team will resume Mountain West play with a pair of conference foes. The Aztecs visit No. 68 Boise State for a 1:30 p.m. (MT) match on Fri., April 15 before returning to Aztec Tennis Center for SDSU's final home match of the season, a noon date with No. 57 Utah State on Sun., April 17.
The Broncos (14-9, 3-2 MW) recently had a five-match win streak snapped by Nevada, who topped Boise State, 4-3, on Sun., April 10. Despite the loss, the Broncos have won seven of their last nine and are 6-1 at home this season. Freshman Kyle Butters, a Mountain West Player of the Week honoree, leads the team with a 14-7 mark in dual match singles play, winning his last nine matches from the No. 4 spot. Butters and Toby Mitchell are the team's top doubles pairing, going 9-4 on court No. 1 during the dual season.
The Aggies (20-6, 5-0 MW), who have set a school record for wins in a season with 20, are in the midst of a six-match win streak, boasting a perfect 5-0 mark in conference play. Most recently, topped Fresno State to remain perfect in Mountain West play, shutting out the Bulldogs, 4-0, on Sun., April 10. Jaime Barajas is 13-6 this dual season from the No. 1 spot, tied for the most in that spot by an Aggie since 1989. Jonas Maier and Jack Swindells comprise the team's most consistent doubles pairing with a 13-5 mark from court No. 2.
The Aztecs (7-11, 2-0 MW) have been off since a 4-0 win at Nevada on Fri., April 1, after rain cancelled matches against Air Force and New Mexico last weekend. The Scarlet and Black have opened Mountain West play with a 2-0 mark after posting 4-3 and 4-0 wins, respectively, at Fresno State and Nevada. San Diego State's 2-0 record against its first two Mountain West opponents of the season marks the fourth straight year that SDSU has opened conference play with a 2-0 mark.
Milen Ianakiev, who clinched the win against the Bulldogs, and Hendrik Jebens, who secured the victory against the Wolfpack, lead the team with eight wins a piece in singles play. In doubles play against Fresno State, Ianakiev and Freddy Gelbrich beat Mantas Bugailiskis and Euan McIntosh at the No. 1 spot.
