WHAT'S ON TAP THIS WEEK IN AZTEC BASEBALL
San Diego State began its week by defeating the University of San Diego, 7-3, on Tuesday (April 12) at the Toreros' Fowler Park. The Aztecs will continue play this weekend when they travel to Lubbock, Texas, for a three-game series against Texas Tech. That set gets underway on Friday, April 15, with a contest scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. (CT) at Dan Law Field. The Aztecs and Red Raiders will also hook up for games on Saturday (April 16) and Sunday (April 17) at 2:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. (CT) respectively.

SERIES RECORD
San Diego State's has won only two of its previous 12 meetings against Texas Tech. The teams first met during the 1988 season in San Diego with SDSU winning 11-4. The Aztecs' other win came in 2015 when they shut out the Red Raiders, 9-0, at Tony Gwynn Stadium before the visitor captured the final two games of the series. SDSU's only previous trip to Lubbock came during the 2000 season when they dropped three games in a weekend series. San Diego State has a record of 2-7 vs. Texas Tech in San Diego and 0-3 in Lubbock, Texas.

THORNTON HEATING UP
Senior left fielder Spencer Thornton is hitting .408 (17-for-42) over SDSU's last 11 games with three doubles, two home runs, five RBI and 10 runs scored. His home run in the bottom of the eighth inning vs. UNLV on Saturday, April 9, broke a 7-7 tie and was the game-winner is the Aztecs' 9-7 victory over the 49ers. He has reached base safely (via hit, walk or hit by pitch) in each of the past 14 contests.

THOMPSON ON TRACK
Junior right-hander Cody Thompson turned in his best outing of the season in the 4-2 win over UNLV last Sunday (April 10). He tossed 8.1 innings allowing two unearned runs on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts. After the Rebels scored in the top of the fourth, Thompson retired the next 14 batters he faced until a runner reached on an error in the top of the ninth. That effort enable him to pick up his first win of the season while lowering his earned run average from 7.67 to 5.86.

ADKISON HITS AWAY
Sophomore Tyler Adkison had a nine-game hitting streak come to an end in the game at USD on Tuesday (April 12). During that streak he went going 12-for-35 (.343) over that span with three doubles, a triple, home run, 11 RBI and four runs scored. He leads the team in home runs with four including one last Saturday in the victory over UNLV. In the win over No. 20 Long Beach State on April 5, he led off with a triple in the 12th inning after which he scored the game-winning run in SDSU's 6-5 victory. He hit a pair of home runs in the contest at Air Force on March 20.

HENSLEY STREAK ENDS
David Hensley hit his first career home run in the second inning of Tuesday's (April 12) contest at USD, giving SDSU a 1-0 lead in a game it went on to win, 7-3. He had a 12-game hitting streak come to an end in the series finale vs. UNLV last Sunday (April 10). During that streak he hit .365 (19-for-52) with a two doubles, four RBI and eight runs scored. He has scored six runs in the Aztecs' past five contests.

WYLIE KEEPS HITTING
Second baseman Justin Wylie hit his third homer of the year at USD on Tuesday, a solo shot in the top of the seventh inning. He has hit safely in 7 of SDSU's last 8 games. In those games he has batted .333 with two doubles, a home run, four RBI and eight runs scored.

VERDON HEATS UP
Freshman Jordan Verdon connected for his second home run of the season at USD on Tuesday, a the-run shot that extended DDSU's two run lead to five runs in the eighth inning. He went 4-for-10 in last weekend's three-game series vs. UNLV with a double and four RBI. His three RBI vs. the Rebels on April 8 was a season high. He had an 11-game hitting streak come to an end on March 26 vs. New Mexico. It was the third-longest hitting streak by an Aztec this season.

STREAKS
Jordan Verdon has the team's longest current hitting streak at four games. The team's longest steak this season is 15 games by Alan Trejo. Spencer Thornton has reached base safely (via hit, walk or hit by pitch) in each of the last 14 games while Tyler Adkison has done so in the last 10 contests. Trejo leads the Aztecs with 14 multiple-hit contests while Adkison leads with six multiple-RBI games.

AZTEC NOTES
Jordan Verdon is one of five Aztecs to have recorded a double, triple and home run this season. The others include Tyler Adkison, Andrew Brown, Dean Nevarez and Chase Calabuig … Senior outfielder Spencer Thornton had his first four-hit game of the season in the contest at Nevada on April 1. Only Thornton and Alan Trejo have recorded four-hit efforts for the Aztecs in 2016 … Shortstop Alan Trejo is the only player to have started all 30 games this season at the same position … Only one other Aztec has started all 30 games, but not at the same position each time: Justin Wylie (2B-3B-DH) … Niko Navarro (1-for-3), Dean Nevarez (1-for-2) and Jordan Verdon (1-for-2) are the only three Aztecs to have recorded a hit as a pinch hitter. Aztec pinch hitters are 3-for-17 on the year.
