SDSU Heads to Azusa for CA Invite Heptathlon & Bryan Clay Invite
After a weekend off from competition, the San Diego State track and field team is back in action at Azusa Pacific in Azusa, Calif., for two meets over a span of three days. The multi-event athletes will compete in the California Invitational heptathlon on Wednesday and Thursday, with the rest of the squad at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday and Friday.
Kassidy Ellis and Karsen Sper are set for the two-day California Invitational heptathlon, beginning at 8:30 a.m. PT Wednesday. Depending on how Ellis and Sper do in the four events on Friday, they will either start day two on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. PT (CA Invite 'C'), 10 a.m. PT (CA Invite 'B') or 11:30 a.m. PT (CA Invite 'C'). Former Aztec great and current volunteer assistant coach Allison Reaser, meanwhile, is entered in the Mt. SAC heptathlon, which starts at 11:15 a.m. PT Wednesday and at 1 p.m. PT Thursday.
Grace Hanshaw, Elaine Ribeiro and Lily Seynaeve kick off SDSU's competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational at 6:20 p.m. PT Thursday with the 5,000-meter run.
San Diego State will have 25 athletes in action on Friday, including Micha Auzenne in the 100, 200 and 100 hurdles. Also competing in multiple events are Lisa-Anne Barrow (100H and long jump), Sierra Brabham-Lawrence (200 and 100H), Jazmen Bunch (100 and 200), Ellis (100H and long jump), Madison Gipson (100H and 400H), Simone Glenn (100 and 200), Ellison Grove (800 and 1,500), Lakin Hatcher (200 and 400H), Ashley Henderson (100 and 200), Tyra Lea (200 and 400H), Kira Moreland (100 and long jump), Courtney Robinson (200 and 100H) and Starlynn Singleton (100 and long jump).
Set for single events on the final day of the meet include Je'Neal Ainsworth in the triple jump, Marissa Berry, Sara Curran, Bonnie Draxler, Courtney Jackson, Katherine Magill and Karen Snapper in the pole vault, Jelena McNown in the long jump, Cali King and Rachel Roesgen in the 1,500, and Jasmine Young in the 400 hurdles.
The Aztecs will also put together a 4x100 relay team.
The long jump and pole vault start things off for SDSU on the final day (Friday) at 9 a.m. PT with the track events getting underway at 10:10 a.m. PT. The 1,500 closes the meet for San Diego State at 7:30 p.m. PT.
