Western Intercollegiate Day Two Results

No. 21 San Diego State remained in sixth place after Tuesday's second round at the Western Intercollegiate at the par-70, 6,615-yard Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz. Similarly, Ryann Ree held his seventh-place position from Monday after shooting even par today.

Ree sits at 2-under for the tournament after his second-round 70 and finds himself nine strokes behind the leader, Aaron Wise of Oregon (-11). The senior from Redondo Beach started on the back nine and managed only one birdie, on No. 14, to make the turn at 2-over for the day. On his second nine, however, Ree birdied Nos. 5 and 9 to produce his even-par score. Ree ended his day by marking par or better on his final 14 holes.

Blake Abercrombie, who is plus-1 for the tourney, moved up two positions on the individual leaderboard despite shooting 1-over par (71). His two birdies on his first nine holes were negated by two bogeys and it was a prelude of what was to come on holes 1-9. After making par on No. 1, the sophomore went birdie, birdie, par before a double bogey set him back on No. 5. He righted the ship on the next two holes with a par and yet another birdie, but two bogeys to end the round put him in a tie for 19th place.

Riccardo Michelini turned in a 1-over effort as well to sit in a tie for 30th place. The senior started on the 11th hole and immediately posted a bogey before responding with a birdie on No. 12. He then went on to record eight consecutive pars before posting a birdie on the par-3 third. Three pars and two bogeys consumed his next five holes before carding a birdie on the par-5 18th. His day ended, however, with a bogey on No. 10 to get him to 3-over par for 36 holes.

Nahum Medoza III finished his second 18 at 2-over par, which put his two-day total at 4-over and in a tie for 40th place. The junior completed his first nine holes at even par after a double bogey on No. 11 and birdies on Nos. 13 and 18. The bird at 18 led to two additional birdies after the turn on Nos. 1-2. Mendoza III, however, had a double bogey and two regular bogeys sprinkled over the final seven holes to give him a 72 for the day.

Brian Song, Gunn Yang and PJ Samiere all sit in a tie for 47th place at 6-over par for the tournament. Song and Samiere both shot a 1-over 71, while Yang posted a 74 (+4). Song and Samiere's effort was four strokes better than their first round scores of 75. Samiere is competing for the Aztecs as an individual.

San Diego State, which trails tournament leader Oregon (-8) by 17 strokes, concludes action at the Western Intercollegiate on Wednesday. The Aztecs will tee off at 8:45 a.m. PT.
