STANFORD, Calif. - No. 18 San Diego State finished its three-game Northern California road trip with a 14-5 loss at third-ranked Stanford Sunday afternoon at Avery Aquatic Center. The decision dropped the Aztecs to 13-14 overall, while the Cardinal moved to 18-2 on the year.

Stanford scored the first three goals of the game before Katy Schneider got the Aztecs on the board with 19 seconds left in the first quarter. In the second frame, the Cardinal found the back of the net twice, while San Diego State logged only one goal, a strike from Ioli Benekou. Despite scoring only once in the second quarter, the Aztecs found themselves within striking distance at halftime, trailing only 5-2.

In the third quarter, however, Stanford began to pull away. The home side tallied the first three goals to move ahead, 8-2, until Caroline Israels ended SDSU's scoring drought with 1:31 left in the period. The Cardinal added one more goal with 36 seconds left to take a 9-3 lead into the final eight minutes.

The fourth quarter saw Stanford continue to rack up goals, scoring five times, with the Aztecs finding the back of the net twice. Scoring for San Diego State was Hannah Carrillo with 6:38 left in regulation and Nikole Ferrari with 30 seconds remaining in the contest.

Rachel Mitchell had seven saves in net for San Diego State, which finished its road trip with a 2-1 record, including two victories over Golden Coast foes, which ran SDSU's conference record to 5-0. The Aztecs are the only undefeated team in league action.

San Diego State returns to action on Friday when it plays host GCC opponent, California Baptist. The game is the first of three straight at home, which represents the final homestand of the season. First sprint at Aztec Aquaplex is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT. Admission is free.
