The San Diego State lacrosse team was unable to keep up with Colorado's organized attack and fell to the Buffaloes in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) action, 16-3, on Sunday afternoon at Kittredge Field.
The Aztecs fall to 3-4 against MPSF foes, moving to 4-9 overall, while the Buffaloes are 4-2 in conference play and are 9-4 overall.
The Buffaloes took a two goal lead within the first five minutes of the game.
With 16:24 to go in the period, Vickie Porter, assisted by Alex Watson, put the Aztecs on the board.
But Colorado scored two goals in 58 seconds for a 4-1 advantage.
Kayla Deitz's first of the season, thanks to a dish by Erin Jeffery, cut Colorado's lead to 4-2 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the half.
The Buffaloes, however, cashed in on a pair in the final 5:42 of the period for a 6-2 lead.
Once the second half began, Colorado went on an impressive 10-1 run, with Watson scoring the lone Aztec second half goal, for the final 16-3 score.
The Buffaloes out-shot SDSU, 28-16, and narrowly edged the Aztecs in the ground ball battle, 25-24. Colorado also won the battle at the draw, 13-8.
Anna Cholewczynski led the team defensively, causing three turnovers. Katrina Reeves (2-1) suffered the loss in the cage, playing the first 47:06 while allowing 12 goals, making six saves and scooping up a team-high six ground balls. Katie Merritt made one save and let in four goals in the game's final 12:54.
San Diego State is off for a week before hosting its final two games of the regular season against UC Davis on Fri., April 22 and USC on Sun., April 24.
