KINGSTON, Jamaica - Former San Diego State standout Shanieka Thomas recently posted the best triple jump mark in the world.

Thomas won the event at a meet in Kingston, Jamaica, last Saturday with a leap of 47 feet, 9 3/4 inches (14.57 meters) into a 1.1 mph headwind. The mark was a PR, hit an Olympic standard and leads Cuba's Liadagmis Povea by a centimeter (14.56m) for the best mark in the world as of April 8.

The triple jump at the Rio Olympics kicks off on Aug. 13.

Thomas finished her SDSU career in 2014 as a three-time NCAA triple jump champion (2013-14 outdoor, 2014 indoor) and a two-time runner-up finisher (2012 outdoor, 2013 indoor). She was a seven-time USTFCCCA All-American and nine-time MW champion.
