San Diego State Returns Home to Face Colorado State in Weekend Series
The San Diego State softball team returns to action this weekend with a home series against Colorado State at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs (21-16, 3-6 MW) will play host to the Rams (16-16, 2-4 MW) at 6 p.m. PT Friday, 6 p.m. PT Saturday and noon PT Sunday. The final two games of the series - Saturday and Sunday - are slated to be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
SDSU is coming off a tough stretch of nine games in 11 days (eight days of either traveling or being in another city) from March 24-April 3, where it went 3-6.
San Diego State is hitting .293 as a team with 16 home runs, 29 stolen bases and 171 runs in 37 games (4.62 runs per game). Sophomore Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) continues to lead the Aztecs in four offensive categories, despite missing 13 of the team's 37 games with injuries, including batting average (.429), home runs (6), slugging percentage (.839) and on-base percentage (.508). Sophomore Zaria Meshack (Vallejo, Calif.) is hitting .394 with team highs of 23 runs and 11 stolen bases, while senior Samantha Camello (Temecula, Calif.) (.339, 20 R, 18 RBI) is also hitting over .300 for SDSU. Junior Jaylene Ignacio (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino HS) (.296, 5 HR, 20 RBI) leads the team in walks (16) and is tied for tops in RBIs.
San Diego State has used a balanced pitching staff so far, combining for a 3.68 team ERA from freshman Julie McDonald (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) (2-1, 3.47 ERA, 40.1 IP), junior Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.) (9-7, 3.51 ERA, 99.2 IP), junior Ashley Ercolano (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) (1-1, 3.73 ERA, 30.0 IP) and sophomore Alex Formby (Orange, Calif.) (9-7, 4.00 ERA, 71.2 IP).
