SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The San Diego State Aztec baseball team returns home this evening to host No. 20 Long Beach State in a game set to get underway at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
The 49ers come into the contest with a record of 17-10, a mark that includes series victories over Cal State Fullerton, Arizona State and Oklahoma.
Freshman left-hander Jacob Hughey (0-0, 1.50) will get his first start of the 2016 campaign for LBSU after having made four relief appearances covering six innings.
After starting last week with a 6-5 win at No. 6 Oregon State, the Aztecs have dropped their most recent three contests and seen their record fall to 6-19.
Junior left Dominic Purpura (0-1, 7.07) will get the call to start on the mound for SDSU, which will host a three-game conference series against UNLV starting on Friday.
Shortstop Alan Trejo continues to pace the San Diego State offense with a .340 batting average. His 17 RBI ties him for the team lead with fellow infielder Justin Wylie.
Sophomore center fielder David Hensley is in the midst of a nine-game hitting streak that has seen him raise his batting average to .308.
The Aztecs have a team batting average of .273 along with a 5.40 earned run average. That compares to LBSU's .247 average and 3.06 ERA.
