FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - San Diego State divers wrapped up action at the Zone E Regional meet on Wednesday with competition on the platform during the meet hosted at the Northern Arizona Tennis and Aquatic complex in Flagstaff, Ariz. A total of 45 female athletes from the western U.S. competed on the platform while vying for qualification for next week's NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships at Georgia Tech.
For the third day in a row, the Aztecs were led by Alexandra Caplan, whose score of 205.40 in the prelims put her in 26th place. Despite her effort, she came up shy of the score needed to place her among the top 18 and gain entrance to the event finals.
Other SDSU divers competing in the platform diving included Nicole Dutton (201.30 – 31st), Payton Gabris (199.55 – 34th) and Makena Chamoures (185.40 – 39th).
Top finisher in the prelims was Arizona State's Mara Aiacoboae who turned in a score of 310.40.
Although the Aztecs had no divers advance to the national championship meet next week, swimmer Taylor Johnson will compete in the 50 freestyle.
The senior's top time this season of 22.16 ranks 21st in the nation and will see her compete on Thursday in Atlanta at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. Prelims in that day's events begin at 10:00 a.m. (ET) with the finals session getting underway at 6:00 p.m. (ET)
