FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - Four San Diego State divers completed competition on the 1-meter springboard at the Zone E Regional meet on Tuesday at Northern Arizona‘s Tennis and Aquatic complex in Flagstaff, Ariz. A total of 58 athletes from the western U.S. are competing at the meet to determine qualifiers for next week's NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships at Georgia Tech.
On Monday the Aztecs were led by Alexandra Caplan, who placed 15th overall with a combined score of 542.85. The sophomore from Mission Viejo, Calif., finished 18th in the prelims with a mark of 260.30 to qualify for the finals competition. She then scored 282.55 in her six dives in the final to complete her 15th-place showing.
Caplan was the lone Aztec to advance to the afternoon session. Other SDSU divers competing in the prelims included Makena Chamoures (33rd – 245.55), Payton Gabris (45th – 229.60) and Nicole Dutton (58th – 189.60).
The Zone E Regional meet continues on Tuesday, March 8, with prelims on the 3-meter board set to get underway at 11:00 a.m. (MT). The finals session will begin at 2:30 p.m. (MT) that afternoon.
