The San Diego State women's tennis team snapped a three-match skid on Saturday by defeating Sacramento State, 4-3. The Aztecs took the doubles point and did just enough in singles play to claim the victory. With the win, SDSU improves to 4-9 on the season.
In doubles play, Alina Soltanici and Deimante Bulatovaite defeated Dora Somoracz and Taylor Lederman, 6-2, in the second spot. In the top spot, Isabelle Hoorn and Jana Buth combined to take down Jennifer Ong and Ana Loaiza Esquivias, 6-2. Court No. 3 would decide the point as Paola Diaz de Regules and Kennedy Davis took down Anna-Maria Nau and Emily McColl, 6-4, to take the first point of the day.
With the lead in hand, the Aztecs moved onto singles competition and hoped to maintain momentum. Playing in the second spot for the first time this season, No. 121 Nguyen downed Ong, 6-1, 6-2, to extend SDSU's lead to 2-0. In the third position, Loaiza Esquivias gave the Hornets their first point of the day as she topped Davis, 6-3, 7-5. In the fifth spot, Hoorn took care of Andie Mouzes, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1, and gave the Aztecs a 3-1 lead. In the top spot, Soltanici got past Buth, 7-5, 6-4, and brought Sacramento State closer at 3-2. The match would be decided in the fourth position where Diaz put up a fight. The Aztec dropped the first set but rallied and took Bulatovaite to three sets and claimed the victory, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5, not only in her singles match, but also the overall decision. The final point of the day came in the sixth spot as Nau defeated Somoracz in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
San Diego State will have a week break and get back on the courts on March 14. SDSU will face Minnesota at Aztec Tennis Center with first serve set for 2 p.m.
