San Diego State Travels to Fresno State for Key MW Series This Weekend
The San Diego State softball team wraps up a busy stretch of games when it travels to Fresno State for a weekend series. The Aztecs (21-13 3-3 MW) and the Bulldogs (21-9-1, 3-0 MW) will play at 6 p.m. PT Friday, 6 p.m. PT Saturday and noon PT Sunday. All three games will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
The weekend series will end a stretch of nine games in a span of 11 days for SDSU. San Diego State lost a series at UNLV, 2-1, last weekend, took two of three vs. Nevada at home in a mid-week series on Tuesday and Wednesday, and travels to MW defending champion Fresno State this weekend for a series from Friday-to-Sunday.
The Aztecs are hitting .297 as a team with 15 home runs, 28 stolen bases and 161 runs in 34 games (4.74 rpg). Sophomore Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) leads SDSU in five offensive categories, despite missing 13 of the team's 34 games with injuries, including batting average (.429), home runs (6), total bases (47), slugging percentage (.839) and on-base percentage (.508). Sophomore Zaria Meshack (Vallejo, Calif.) is hitting .400 with team highs of 21 runs and 10 stolen bases, while senior Samantha  Camello (Temecula, Calif.) (.333, 17 R, 17 RBI) and junior Jaylene Ignacio (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino HS) (.300, 5 HR, 19 RBI) are also batting at least .300 for SDSU.
San Diego State has used a balanced pitching staff so far, combining for a 3.25 team ERA from sophomore Alex Formby (Orange, Calif.) (9-5, 3.13 ERA, 2 SV, 67.0 IP), freshman Julie McDonald (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) (2-1, 3.18 ERA, 1 SV, 39.2 IP), junior Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.) (9-6, 3.33 ERA, 1 SV, 90.1 IP) and junior Ashley Ercolano (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) (1-1, 3.41 ERA, 26.2 IP).
