CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State used a seven-run fifth inning to overcome a three-run deficit and the No. 6 Beavers went on to defeat San Diego State, 9-6, to wrap up the brief two-game series between the teams.

With the loss, the Aztecs saw their record fall to 6-17 overall as they were coming off back-to-back wins for the second time this season. OSU, meanwhile, ended a four-game losing streak to improve to 16-6 on the year.

Looking to continue the momentum from its win over the Beavers on Monday, San Diego State came out and put three runs on the board in the top of the opening inning. Singles by Justin Wylie and David Hensley plus a walk to Spencer Thornton set the stage for Tyler Adkison's two-out three-run double to right center to give the visitors a quick 3-0 lead.

That lead held up over the next four innings behind the pitching of Aztec junior right-hander Cody Thompson. Over that span he allowed just a pair of singles and a walk that was erased with a double play.

The fifth innings, however, would be the turning point of the contest as the Beavers struck for seven runs on five hits and a pair of walks. The inning was capped off by a two-out three-run homer by Christian Donahue that extended the home sides' one-run lead to a 7-3 advantage. It was the sophomore's first home run of the 2016 campaign.

Thompson would be charged with four of the seven runs in the frame and as a result would be tagged with the loss to see his record drop to 0-5.

The Aztecs attempted to get back into the contest with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth to close to within two at 7-5. Those markers came courtesy of an RBI single by Alan Trejo and sacrifice fly by Thornton.

But the Beavers restored their four-run lead with two of their own in the bottom of the inning before SDSU added a consolation run in the top of the ninth on a double by Andrew Brown, single by Hunter Stratton and run-scoring single by Wylie for the final 9-6 score line.

San Diego State will now move on the Reno, Nev., where it will face a three-game Mountain West series against conference foe Nevada that gets underway on Friday, April 1, at 6:00 p.m. at the Wolf Pack's Peccole Park.
