KANSAS CITY, Mo. - San Diego State men's basketball senior forward Winston Shepard and sophomore guard Trey Kell were named to the 2015-16 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 17 Second Team. The duo was selected and voted on by member coaches in NABC District 17.

A native of Houston, Texas, Shepard is averaging 11.4 points and leads the team in rebounding (6.5) and assists (3.1). Over his last seven games, the senior has picked up his game and has averaged 14.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists in helping the Aztecs reach the NIT semifinals. For the season, he has 23 double-figure scoring games, including a career-high seven straight entering the game vs. George Washington, and six double-doubles. In the first round of the NIT, he posted the school's first triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high 12 assists vs. IPFW.

Kell, meanwhile, leads the team in scoring at 12.7 points per outing, while adding 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists. The team's top three-point shooter (70 makes, 38.9 percent), Kell has made multiple treys in three straight games, including a career-high four vs. Georgia Tech in the NIT quarterfinals. The San Diego native has scored in double figures a team-best 27 times and at one point, reached the plateau in 20 consecutive games.

The all-district recognition is the first for both players and marks the first time San Diego State has had two honorees since 2014. In fact, the two all-district selections tie a school record (2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014) and gives the Aztecs at least one award winner in 11 straight seasons.

Shepard and Kell and the rest of the Aztecs will return to action on Tuesday, March 29, when they face fourth-seeded George Washington in the NIT semifinals at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Game time is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on ESPN and The Mighty 1090.
