SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The San Diego State baseball team will host league-leading New Mexico in a three-game series this week starting with a contest tonight at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
The Lobos come into today with an overall record of 13-7 and their 5-1 mark in Mountain West play sees them atop the league table with a half-game lead over Air Force.
Junior left-hander Carson Schneider (3-1, 4.28) is expected to be UNM's starting piucher this evening. He will have offensive support from a UNM squad that sports a .319 team batting average led by Chris DeVito (.400, 5 HR, 27 RBI) and Luis Gonzalez (.386, 5 2B, 8 RBI).
San Diego State, meanwhile, will be looking to end a the-game skid that has seen its record fall to 4-12 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Junior lefty Dominic Purpura (0-0, 5.91) will make his third start of the year tonight for San Diego State. He has turned in a pair of solid effort in his previous two starts and has also made five relief appearances this season.
Shortstop Alan Trejo continues to pace the Aztec offense as he brings a .385 batting average and 14-game hitting streak into this evening's series opener.
Freshman Jordan Verdon has also been hitting well of late as he is on a nine-game streak and batting .379 with a double, triple. three RBI and five runs scored over SDSU's past nine outings.
The UNM-SDSU series will continue on Friday, March 25, with a contest at 6:00 p.m. and conclude with a Saturday (March 26) game slated for a 1:00 p.m. start. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
