SAN DIEGO, Calif. - After a series of road games last week, San Diego State returns home this evening to host UC Riverside in a contest slated to get underway at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
The Highlanders come into the day with a record of 8-12 after dropping two of three games to New Mexico State at home last weekend.
UCR is led offensively by center fielder Vince Fernandez (.370, 3 2B, 8 RBI) and catcher Casey Worden (.304, 2 HR, 10 RBI).
Senior right-hander Tyler Musgraves (2-0, 4.02) is expected to start on the mound for the Highlanders this evening.
San Diego State (4-13) will counter by sending junior right-hander Adrian Orozco (1-0, 4.82) to the hill for his second start of the 2016 season.
At the plate, the Aztecs' top hitters include shortstop Alan Trejo (.394, 2 2B, 12 RBI), designated hitter Dean Nevarez (.319, 3 2B, 8 RBI) and second baseman Justin Wylie (3 2b, 15 RBI). After hitting a pair of home runs in last Sunday's contest at Air Force, sophomore right fielder Tyler Adkison has taken over the team HR lead with three on the season.
Following tonight's game, SDSU will prepare to resume Mountain West play when New Mexico visits Tony Gwynn Field for a three-game series later this week. That set begins with a contest on Thursday, March 24, set to start at 6:00 p.m. (PT).
