SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State track and field team splits squads for two meets this weekend, including some of the athletes heading to the two-day Trojan Invitational on the campus of USC in Los Angeles. The rest of the squad will complete in the Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet in nearby Point Loma, Calif.

The Trojan Invitational gets underway on Friday with the discus throw and hammer throw at Cal State Los Angeles at 1 p.m. PT. The distance carnival at USC's Loker Stadium, featuring the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the open 3K starts at 6 p.m. PT.

Most of the meet will be contested on Saturday, starting with the pole vault, shot put and long jump at 10 a.m. PT. The collegiate running events get underway at 11 a.m. PT with the 4x100-meter relay and conclude with the 4x400-meter relay at 2:15 p.m. PT.

Joining the Aztecs and host Trojans in the meet are Brigham Young, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Hawai‘i, Long Beach State and Washington State, as well as several athletes competing unattached.

General admission to the Trojan Invite is $10 for the general public, $5 for youth between the ages of 3 and 12 and seniors (65 and up), and free for children 3 and under.

The Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet, meanwhile, starts with the javelin throw at 9 a.m. PT Saturday. The running events start at noon PT with the steeplechase and ends with the 4x400-meter relay at 5:25 p.m. PT.

SDSU is coming off a runner-up finish at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge last Saturday, despite resting many of its top performers. San Diego State won nine events on the day, including eight individual events and the 4x400-meter relay.

On the track, the Aztecs bagged four wins, including Starlynn Singleton in the 100 (12.11), Lisa-Anne Barrow in the 200 (25.00), Lakin Hatcher in the 400 (56.86) and Sierra Brabham-Lawrence in the 400 hurdles (1:02.62). The 4x400 ‘A' team also won in 3:49.16.

On the field side of things, events were won by Bonnie Draxler in the pole vault (12 feet, 6 ¼ inches (3.82m)), Singleton in the triple jump (37-10.50 (11.54m)), Freja Liljedahl in the hammer throw (176-03 (53.72m)) and Rachel Alesi in the discus throw (157-00 (47.85m)).
