COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State shortstop Alan Trejo has earned the Mountain West Baseball Player of the Week award for games played through Sunday, March 13, 2016. It is the first MW weekly accolade for Trejo, a sophomore from Downey, Calif. (Warren HS).
Trejo led San Diego State to a 2-1 week in a home series against Big Ten foe Northwestern. Over the three contests he posted a batting average of .600 (9-for-15) with six runs scored, five runs batted in and one stolen base. Had at least two hits and two runs scored in in all three games with a .625 on-base percentage and a .600 slugging percentage.
In Thursday's 11-6 win against the Wildcats, was 3-for-5 from the plate with two runs scored and three RBI. He had a two-run single and scored a run in SDSU's seven-run seventh inning that broke a 1-1 tie and added an RBI-single in the eighth.
In Friday's 13-7 loss that ended on Saturday due to weather, Trejo had two hits in five at-bats with two runs scored. He singled and scored SDSU's opening run in the first inning and did the same in the third inning to build a 4-0 lead.
Trejo then went 4-for-5 with two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 15-10 victory. He reached base in first five plate appearances with four consecutive singles and a hit-by-pitch. His RBI single in the first inning drove in the Aztecs first run of the game and he also drove in and scored a run in the six-run fourth inning when SDSU took the lead for good.
Defensively, Trejo recorded seven putouts and 12 assists with no errors.
San Diego State resumes action this week on Tuesday (March 15) when it travels north to take on 23rd-ranked Cal State Fullerton at 6:00 p.m. at the Titans' Goodwin Field.
