SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Due to inclement weather, the opening game of Friday's doubleheader between San Diego State and Northwestern has been halted and will continue Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. The teams cleared the field just before 4:00 p.m. and after two hours of rain the tarp was removed and the field was prepped for play, but it was determined the field was unplayable.

The contest was stopped in the bottom of the sixth with the Wildcats leading, 6-4. The Aztecs had Jordan Verdon on third after a leadoff triple and David Hensley at the plate with no outs.

San Diego State had taken a 1-0 lead in the opening frame after scoring a run in the bottom of the third on an RBII double by Dean Nevarez.

The Aztecs upped their advantage to 4-0 with three more runs in the third with a rally that was capped off by Tyler Adkison's two-run homer, his first of the season.

Northwestern struck for three runs in it half of the fourth thanks to a key SDSU error. With the bases loaded and one out, what appeared to be a potential double play grounder to third was thrown away allowing two runs to score. The Wildcats added a third with a two-out single to close to within a run at 4-3.

The visitors then tacked three runs in their total in the top of the sixth off Aztec reliever Cody Thompson. Four consecutive singles plus a wild pitch gave Northwestern a 6-3 lead.

San Diego State started the bottom of the inning with Verdon's triple and the Wildcats had just brought on reliever Danny Katz when the rains started forcing the postponement.

The teams will play a second game on Saturday at approximately 1:00 p.m. depending on the time needed to complete the suspended contest. Due to Northwestern's travel plans, the fourth game of the series has been canceled.
