SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior utility Caroline Israels has been named the Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Thursday morning. The award is the third of her career and the first of the season for the Aztecs.

Israels, who hails from Pompano Beach, Florida, posted five goals, one assist and six steals last week in games at Azusa Pacific and UC Irvine.

In a 10-4 victory at APU, Israels recorded one goal, one assist and one steal to help the Aztecs improve to 2-0 in GCC action. Then in a crushing 6-5 sudden-death overtime loss, Israels provided the game-tying goal with four seconds left in OT. She ultimately finished with a game-high four goals and five steals.

Israels and the Aztecs will play their home season opener this Saturday at 11:30 a.m. PT vs. No. 18 Harvard. No. 20 SDSU will also play No. 14 Princeton at 4 p.m. PT. Both games are a part of the Aztec Invitational, which starts at 9 a.m. PT both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free and SDSU is teaming with Be A Hero Be A Donor to encourage fans to register to become bone marrow donors. To become a donor, it only takes two cheek swabs and Be A Hero Be A Donor will be on the pool deck from 9 a.m. PT-3 p.m. PT.
