SAN DIEGO -
The San Diego State women's tennis team returned home to begin a five-match homestand on Tuesday but the Aztecs could not capitalize on the home court advantage. SDSU claimed the doubles point for an early lead but was unable to stop the Loyola Marymount rally in singles play. San Diego State fell to LMU, 5-2, at Aztec Tennis Center.
To open the day, Paola Diaz de Regules and Kennedy Davis combined to take down Andrea Crespo and Julia Norlin in second doubles, 6-1. In the first spot, Jessica Perez and Elvira Juravliova evened things up for the Lions as the duo topped Tami Nguyen and Jana Buth, 6-3. The third court saw Isabelle Hoorn and Dora Somoracz dismiss Kristine Kouyoumjian and Jaclyn Findlay, 6-4, to take the point.
In singles play, Kouyoumjian defeated Buth, 6-3, 6-3, in the second position to knot the score at 1-1. In the third spot, Crespo got past Davis, 6-2, 6-4, to give the Lions their first lead of the day. On court No. 4, Juravliova defeated Diaz, 6-4, 6-2, to bring Loyola Marymount within a point victory. In the fifth spot, Hoorn gave the Aztecs life as she downed Findlay, 7-6 (3), 6-0. In the top position, No. 121 Nguyen battled back after dropping the first set and evened up the score in the second. Despite the Aztec senior's best efforts, Nguyen's rally in the third set was halted by Perez who clinched the decision for LMU, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. In the sixth spot, Norlin gave the Lions their final point as she defeated Somoracz in a 10-point tiebreaker, 7-5, 3-6, 10-8.
