SAN DIEGO - San Diego State welcomes Boston University at 6 p.m. PST Tuesday at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs enter the non-conference game with an 11-7 record, while the Terriers are 4-8.
SDSU went 1-2 last weekend with its win coming against No. 11/9 Texas A&M before all of the Sunday games at the San Diego Classic I were rained out.
After four weeks of play, San Diego State leads the Mountain West with a .313 batting average, and is third in ERA (3.20) and fourth in fielding percentage (.954).
Despite missing nine of the team's 18 games, sophomore Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) leads the Aztecs in batting average (.560), runs (14), home runs (4), total bases (29, tied), slugging percentage (1.160) and on-base percentage (.656). Sophomore Zaria Meshack (Vallejo, Calif.) is hitting .425 with 12 runs and a team-best seven stolen bases, while redshirt freshman Katie Byrd (Santee, Calif./West Hills HS) is batting .378 with a team-high 15 RBIs. Three others - senior Samantha Camello (Temecula, Calif.) (.350, 11 R), junior Sam Vlot (Chowchilla, Calif.) (.333) and junior Jaylene Ignacio (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino HS) (.327, 3 HR, 12 RBI) - are also hitting over .300 for SDSU.
Junior Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.) has pitched the most for a balanced San Diego State pitching staff, going 6-2 with a 3.33 ERA over 48 1/3 innings. Junior Ashley Ercolano (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) (1-1, 2.47 ERA, 17.0 IP), freshman Julie McDonald (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) (1-1, 3.04 ERA, 25.1 IP) and sophomore Alex Formby (Orange, Calif.) (3-3, 3.59 ERA, 25.1 IP) have also logged innings in the circle for the Aztecs.
BU is hitting .244 on the season with a 3.95 team ERA and a .950 fielding percentage. Brittany Younan (.341), Alex Heinen (.333) and Moriah Connolly (.302) are all hitting over .300 with Connolly adding a team-high seven stolen bases. Lauren Hines has pitched 42 1/3 of the team's 78 innings, going 3-3 with a 2.81 ERA.
