SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego will get its 2016 Mountain West season underway with a three- game series vs. Fresno State that begins this evening with a contest scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start at Tony Gwynn Stadium.

The Bulldogs enter the weekend with a perfect 9-0 record and are off to their best start since the 1951 campaign. They are expected to start sophomore left-hander Ricky Thomas (2-0, 0.75) on the mound to open the series.

At the plate, FSU's top hitters include outfielders Brody Russell (.421, 2B, 8 RBI) and Austin Guibor (.321, 2B, 4 RBI). Fresno State comes into the day hitting .271 as a team with a 1.33 earned run average.

The Aztecs, meanwhile will be looking to end a five-game skid that has seen their record fall to 1-8. In an effort to shake things up, SDSU will send freshman left Dominic Purpura (0-0, 2.4) to the mound to open tonight's game.

SDSU will also be looking to get more offensive production from a lineup that is led by shortstop Alan Trejo (.316, 2B, 4 RBI) and second baseman Justin Wylie (.286, 2 2B, 4 RBI).

The weekend series between the Aztecs and Bulldogs will continue on Saturday (March 5) with a contest at 1:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
