COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Seven San Diego State student-athletes were named to the 2016 all-Mountain West Indoor Track and Field team, the league announced today. To be named to the all-conference team, an athlete must finish in the top three of an individual event or relay event.
The seven all-conference selections - Micha Auzenne, Marissa Berry, Sierra Brabham-Lawrence, Bonnie Draxler, Kassidy Ellis, Simone Glenn and Ashley Henderson - helped the Aztecs take second at the MW Championships last weekend.
Auzenne won the 60-meter dash in 7.33 seconds, a day after setting a school record in the prelims in 7.32, and the 60-meter hurdles in a program-best and MW Championship-best time of 8.18. The 8.18 broke her own record time of 8.21, set last year en route to her first MW title. Auzenne now has four MW titles to her credit (three indoor, one outdoor) and is a six-time all-league selection (four indoor, two outdoor). For her efforts, she was also named the meet's Women's Outstanding Performer.
Draxler, meanwhile, won the indoor pole vault for the second straight year with a mark of 13 feet, 9 ¼ inches (4.20m) after winning last year's championship as a freshman in 13-08.50 (4.17m). The 13-09.25 is the sixth-best mark in indoor school history. Draxler is now a three-time all-MW pick in the pole vault (two indoor, one outdoor).
Henderson also won an event for SDSU, taking home the 200 title in a school-record time of 23.44 in the 200 to capture her first career MW title. The time bested Shanae Roach's 23.45 set at the 2011 MW Championships. Henderson is now a two-time all-MW selection in the indoor 200.
A freshman, Berry took third in the pole vault, clearing 13-01.50 (4.00m) for the ninth-best vault in program history.
Also a freshman, Brabham-Lawrence came in second in the 60 hurdles in 8.29, tied for the fourth-fastest time in program history.
A day after coming in fourth in the pentathlon, Ellis took third in the open long jump with a leap of 18-10.75 (5.76m) for her first career all-MW accolade.
Glenn took third in the 200 in 23.84, tied for fourth all-time at San Diego State. It was her third career all-MW honor (one indoor, two outdoor).
The Aztecs begin their outdoor campaign at the San Diego Collegiate Challenge on March 12 at UC San Diego in La Jolla, Calif.
