Feb. 27, 2016

SAN DIEGO - On Saturday morning, the San Diego State rowing team opened its spring season with a dual race against Loyola Marymount. The Aztecs split the two races against the Lions. SDSU finished behind LMU in the first eight matchup but topped the Lions in the second eight showdown.

The first race of the day was the showdown between the two second eight crews. The Aztecs opened 2016 in successful fashion with a victory. SDSU crossed the finish line first with a time of 6 minutes, 23.6 seconds. Loyola Marymount clocked a time of 6.33.3.

The second and final race of the day paired up the two top boats from the two Southern California schools. LMU's boat was the first of the first eight crews to cross the finish line. The Lions posted a time of 5:57.8 while SDSU finished just behind with a time of 6:03.9.

"The team showed definite improvement from last year," said head coach Bill Zack. "Both boats rowed up to their potential but the second boat winning is a good reflection of our team's depth."
