Junior Jaylene Ignacio (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino HS) and sophomore Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) each homered to lead the San Diego State softball team to a 10-1, run-rule victory in five innings Friday night at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. The Aztecs (9-3) have now won six consecutive games.
SDSU scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, two in the second, three in the third and three in the fourth to secure its third run-rule win of the year.
Ignacio hit a two-run home run in the second and added an RBI double in the third. Peres, meanwhile, led off the third with a homer and finished with three runs.
Junior Ashley Ercolano (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) added two hits, including an RBI double, and scored two runs, while pitching the first 2 2/3 innings in the circle. The right-hander allowed one run on six hits and walk, while striking out two.
All nine starters had at least one hit for San Diego State with redshirt freshman Katie Byrd (Santee, Calif./West Hills HS) recording a two-run double with a run and a walk, and sophomore Taylor Stewart (Bellflower, Calif.) finishing 1-for-1 with an RBI single, a run and two walks.
Sophomore Alex Formby (Orange, Calif.) pitched the final 2 1/3 innings for the Aztecs and gave up one hit, while striking out two to pick up the win.
SDSU continues its play in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning with a 5 p.m. PST game against Nebraska and a 7:30 p.m. PST contest vs. CSUN.
