BERKELEY, Calif. -

SDSU-CAL BOX SCORE

The San Diego State women's tennis team was overwhelmed by the top-ranked team in the nation, No. 1 California, on Wednesday. The Golden Bears claimed the doubles point and never took their foot off of the gas pedal, taking all six singles decisions. With the loss the Aztecs fall to 3-7 on the season.

The day opened with doubles play and California entered two ranked doubles teams into competition. Sixth-ranked Meagan Manassee and Denise Starr topped Tami Nguyen and Jana Buth in the top spot, 6-1. On court No. 2, 52nd-ranked Klara Fabikova and Olivia Hauger defeated Isabelle Hoorn and Taylor Lederman, 6-3, to claim the point. Despite the match tied at four-all, the duel between Lynn Chi and Maria Smith of California and SDSU's Paola Diaz de Regules and Kennedy Davis was left unfinished due to the point being awarded.

Despite making a return to the singles rankings at No. 121, Nguyen could not keep up with No. 5 Fabikova, falling to the Golden Bear, 6-0, 6-0. In the fourth spot, No. 96 Hauger defeated Diaz, 6-1, 6-1. California clinched the win as 80th-ranked Starr knocked off Buth in the second position, 6-0, 6-1. On court No. 5, Karla Popovic dismissed Lederman, 6-0, 6-1. In the third spot, Chi downed Davis, 6-2, 6-2. Court No. 6 saw the Golden Bear's final point as Lyann Hoang defeated Hoorn, 6-4, 6-2.

San Diego State will travel south and look to bounce back as it takes on Long Beach State on Sat., Feb. 27. First serve is set for noon in Long Beach, Calif.
