COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State's Ryann Ree (Redondo Beach, Calif.) was named Mountain West Men's Golfer of the Week for tournaments played Feb. 15-21, as announced Wednesday by the league office. With his award, the Aztec senior garnered the first conference weekly/monthly accolade of his career and first for SDSU this season.

Ree posted his highest placement as a collegian last week at The Prestige at PGA WEST in La Quinta, Calif., finishing alone the runner-up spot after shooting a combined 10-under par 203 on the par-71, 7,046-yard Greg Norman Course.

A graduate of Redondo Union High School, Ree was one of just two players in the field of 81 competitors to card all three rounds in the 60s (68-66-69), with his 66 on day two matching the second-best score for the entire tournament. In addition, the aforementioned 66 equaled the second-lowest round of his career.

Ree also bested 15 golfers ranked among the Golfstat Top 100 at the time of the event and finished second with 15 birdies overall, including six during the second round.

As a team, the Aztecs placed third among 15 squads with a combined score of 4-under par 848, topping three schools ranked among the top 10 last week in Stanford (5), Duke (6) and USC (7).

For the season, Ree leads SDSU with eight rounds below par, including seven in the 60s, while maintaining the team's second-best scoring average (71.00) through five tournaments. Not to be outdone, the public administration major occupies the 66th spot nationally in the latest Golfstat rankings.

Ree and the 20th-ranked Aztecs return to the fairways next week when they compete in the Southwestern Jones Invitational, Feb. 29-March 1, at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif.
