SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The San Diego State baseball team will make its first road trip of the new season when it visits UC Irvine this evening for a contest scheduled to get underway at 6:30 p.m. at Anteater Ballpark.
UCI is coming off a weekend that saw it split a four-game series at San jose State. The Anteaters will start junior right-hander Sean Sparling (1-0, 0.00) on the mound. Sparling tossed three shutout innings of relief in a win over San Jose State on Friday.
San Diego State will send redshirt freshman Harrison Pyatt to the mound to start tonight's game. It will marks Pyatt's Aztec debut after he sat out the 2015 campaign.
Freshman first baseman Jordan Vedon from nearby Granite Hills High School led the Aztec offense on opening weekend, going 4.for-11 (.364) with a run scored.
Designated hitter David Hensley (Patrick Henry HS) recorded doubles in each of SDSU's first two contests and leads the squad with a .455 slugging mark.
Following tonight's game the Aztecs will get ready for their contest against the University of San Diego which will be played in Lake Elsinore on Thursday, Feb. 25, at 6:00 p.m
