SAN DIEGO – Lisa Pearson has been named San Diego State Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing and New Media, San Diego State University Director of Athletics Jim Sterk announced.
Pearson brings a plethora of experience working at athletic departments in Power Five conferences to Montezuma Mesa, serving tenures in the marketing departments at the Atlantic 10 Conference, Penn State, Saint Joseph’s, Ohio State, Kentucky and Iowa.
Pearson comes to San Diego State from Iowa, where, beginning in July 2011, she served as the Director of Marketing. In that role, she oversaw the marketing efforts for all 24 varsity sport programs and was the game producer and developed and implemented marketing, advertising and promotional plans for football and men’s and women’s basketball. In her last four seasons on staff, the Hawkeyes ranked in the top 25 for average attendance in football, men’s and women’s basketball and wrestling. Iowa hosted the NCAA Women’s Basketball first and second rounds each season from 2013-2015, and the first and second round of the 2013 NIT Tournament.
Prior to her appointment at Iowa, Pearson was an Assistant Director of Marketing at Kentucky from June 2007 to July 2011. She developed and implemented marketing plans and game day promotions for volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, gymnastics, softball and swimming and diving, serving as the game producer for football and men’s basketball. In each of the sports she oversaw, average attendance increased from an average of 17 percent (women’s soccer in 2007) to 105 percent (softball from 2008-11).
After graduating from Penn State in 2005, serving an internship in the Nittany Lions’ marketing department, Pearson spent a summer working with Saint Joseph’s athletics department as a marketing assistant. She then moved on to Ohio State, where, in 2007, she earned her master’s degree in education. While in Columbus, Ohio, Pearson served as an event management intern and a marketing graduate associate with the Buckeyes.
She holds memberships in the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) and the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA).
