SAN DIEGO -

SDSU-UH BOX SCORE

On a sweltering Tuesday afternoon, the San Diego State women's tennis team saw its early lead slip away as the Aztecs fell, 4-2, to No. 65 Hawai'i. SDSU claimed the doubles point but could not maintain the momentum, falling in singles play.

Competition got underway with doubles action as Cindy Nguyen and Roxanne Resma topped Isabelle Hoorn and Taylor Lederman in the second spot, 6-1. In the top spot, Tami Nguyen and Jana Buth evened things up for the Aztecs as the duo dismissed Sarah Gealer and Klara Pribylova, 6-4. The decider came down to court No. 3 where Paola Diaz de Regules and Kennedy Davis fought to claim the point over Marina Hruba and Paulina Petriskova, 7-6 (3).

With the point advantage, SDSU went into singles play with an upset in mind. In the second position, Hruba knotted the score at one-all as she got past Buth, 6-1, 6-2. On court No. 6, Petriskova gave the Rainbow Wahine their first lead of the day as she defeated Hoorn, 6-3, 6-3. In the top spot, Cindy Nguyen clashed with Tami Nguyen and came out on top to bring UH within a point of victory, 7-6 (4), 7-5. In a gritty comeback on court No. 4, Diaz gave the Aztecs life as she fought and defeated Pribylova, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (2). The match would end up being decided by the fifth spot as Resma took Lederman to three sets to clinch the decision, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. The duel on court No. 3 between Davis and Gealer was left unfinished due to the overall match decided by the score of 4-2.

San Diego State will have a quick chance at redemption as it will play host to UC Irvine on Thursday, Feb. 18. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at Aztec Tennis Center.
