SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women’s tennis team will return home this week to play host to two opponents. On Feb. 16 SDSU will welcome No. 65 Hawai’i followed by UC Irvine on Feb. 18. Both matches at Aztec Tennis Center are set for a 2 p.m. start.
On Tuesday, San Diego State will take on the Rainbow Wahine who are 4-3 on the season. UH is most recently coming off of a 4-1 win over UC Riverside on Sunday. The Rainbow Wahine hold wins over the Highlanders, Cal Poly, an upset of Arizona and Nevada. UH boats one singles player in the national standings with Marina Hruba holding the 99th spot. Last season the Aztecs defeated Hawai’i, 5-2, at the UH Tennis Complex.
On Thursday, the Aztecs will matchup against UC Irvine which is 1-4 on the season. The Anteaters opened the season with a 4-3 victory over Grand Canyon but have gone on to drop the following four decisions. Most recently, UCI fell 5-2 to Sacramento State on Feb. 6. Last year, the Aztecs fell, 5-2, to UC Irvine on their first road trip of the season.
San Diego State is looking to snap a three-match skid after most recently falling to No. 45 Saint Mary’s. The Aztecs claimed an early lead by nabbing the doubles point but could not halt the Gaels’ singles rally and fell by a close 4-3 margin.
Following the two matches at Aztec Tennis Center this week, SDSU will get back on the road for two. The Aztecs will travel to Berkeley, Calif., on Feb. 24 to face the top team in the country, California. San Diego State will then travel back down the coast to see No. 40 Long Beach State on Feb. 27.
