SDSU Men's Basketball Game Notes | SDSU Broadcast Flip

NEWS AND NOTES (through Jan. 27 games)

* San Diego State completes the first half of the Mountain West campaign with a road game against UNLV at Thomas & Mack Center Saturday evening. In its quest for an unprecedented 10th MW championship, SDSU has a two-game lead over Boise State (6-2) and two-and-a-half game advantage over New Mexico (5-2).

* SDSU is looking to break the Mountain West record for most consecutive league road victories. The Aztecs, who have won seven straight MW road games, currently share the record with the 2004-05 Utah and 2010 New Mexico teams.

* San Diego State, which has won 10 straight Mountain West games dating back to last season, is also looking to break the school record for most consecutive conference wins. In 95 seasons of basketball, there is only one other time the Aztecs won 10 straight league games. That was in 2014 when SDSU opened 10-0.

* Although San Diego State trails the all-time series with UNLV, 35-27, the Aztecs have won a school-record-tying six consecutive games against the Rebels and 12 of the last 15 encounters (12-3).

* The Aztecs have won four straight games over UNLV at Thomas & Mack Center (longest win streak at UNLV in the last 22 seasons).

* Since Feb. 26, 2014, San Diego State is 4-0 against UNLV at Thomas & Mack Center and the rest of the country is 5-23. No other team has multiple victories during that stretch.

* UNLV is 8-2 at home this season with a scoring margin of +18.2. The Rebels are averaging 84.3 points at home and 8.8 three-point field goals made per game in the building.

* San Diego State has won its last six games in the state of Nevada against Silver State schools. That is the longest active win streak in the country (Arizona State and UC Santa Barbara are tied for second with three straight victories).

* Steve Fisher owns 23 career victories against the Rebels. That is the most among active coaches nationally (Steve Alford is second with eight). He will face his seventh different UNLV head coach Saturday (Bill Bayno, Max Good, Charlie Spoonhour, Jay Spoonhour, Lon Krugger and Dave Rice).

* San Diego State has won its most recent encounter against every Mountain West school (UNLV 6, Nevada 6, Utah State 6, Air Force 5, San José State 5, Colorado State 3, Fresno State 2, New Mexico 2, Boise State 1 and Wyoming 1).

* SDSU has won eight consecutive games overall (tied for the 10th-longest active streak and longest in the Mountain West).

* The Aztecs have won five straight road games (tied for the seventh-longest active streak in the country).

* San Diego State has won eight straight road games against Mountain West opponents in their building, which includes a victory at UNLV in the 2015 Mountain West tournament.

* Since the beginning of the 2010-11 campaign, San Diego State owns a 45-19 record in road games. The 70.3 winning percentage is the third-highest nationally during that time frame (see chart below).

* Among the 18 teams that have yet to lose a conference game, San Diego State's eight league wins are second nationally, trailing only Wichita State (9).

* On Tuesday, the Aztecs were successful on the first-half of their Silver State tour with a 57-54 win at Nevada. SDSU won despite shooting just 28.8 percent from the field in the game. That represents the lowest field-goal percentage in a winning effort for a road team this season. Through Tuesday, teams that shot less than 30 percent from the field this season were 11-170 (6.1 percent). The Aztecs held the Wolf Pack to 29.7 percent shooting, owned a 48-42 rebound advantage and were 24-of-32 from the line.
