The San Diego State women's tennis team opened its spring slate on Saturday with a split. The Aztecs played host to UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton for a doubleheader at Aztec Tennis Center. SDSU topped the Highlanders, 6-1, to open the day and followed with a dropped 5-2 decision to the Titans in the afternoon.

The Aztecs opened the day with doubles play with Kennedy Davis and Paola Diaz de Regules blanking Chloe Pham and Kassie Truong, 6-0. Olivia Larsson and Dora Somoracz clinched the point for SDSU by defeating Tracy Van and Natalie Penner in the third spot, 6-2. Isabelle Hoorn and Taylor Lederman completed the perfect doubles outing by topping Karlay Dulay and Tamila Vaksman, 6-3.

In singles competition, Jana Buth notched the second point for San Diego State as she downed Van in the second position, 6-1, 6-2. In the fourth spot, Lederman finished off Penner, 6-3, 6-0. Hoorn defeated Troung in the sixth position, 6-2, 6-1, to secure the victory for the Aztecs. In the third spot, Diaz defeated Dulay, 6-2, 7-5. In the top spot, Davis got past Pham, 6-2, 7-6 (1), for SDSU's final point of the morning. Arabella Valera gave the Highlanders their lone point by defeating Larsson in the fifth position, 6-3, 6-4.

San Diego State attempted to carry its early momentum into the afternoon but Cal State Fullerton put up a fight. In doubles play Masako Makiba and Karla Portalatin topped Davis and Diaz in the second spot, 6-4. In the first position, Alexis Valenzuela and Camille De Leon secured the first point for the Titans by defeating Hoorn and Lederman, 6-4. Somoracz and Larsson avoided the CSF doubles sweep by downing Sarah Nuno and Danielle Pham in the third spot, 7-5.

In singles play, De Leon gave the Titans their second point on the day by topping Diaz on court No. 3, 6-4, 6-1. In the top spot, Valenzuela defeated Davis, 6-4, 6-1. In the fourth position, Lederman put SDSU on the board by knocking off Makiba, 6-2, 6-3. On court No. 6, Pham sealed the victory for CSF by topping Larsson, 6-4, 6-4. In the second spot, Buth gave the Aztecs their second point of the match by topping Nuno in a battle, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8. The final match of the day proved to be a duel as Portalatin defeated Somoracz, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

San Diego State will return to the courts on Jan. 29 when it plays host to No. 23 Kentucky at Aztec Tennis Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
