COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State's Micha Auzenne and Bonnie Draxler swept the Mountain West weekly awards, the league announced today. Auzenne was chosen as the MW Indoor Track & Field Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while Draxler picked up the MW Indoor Track & Field Women's Field-of-the-Week honor.
Auzenne won both events she competed in at the NAU Lumberjack Challenge in Flagstaff, Ariz., on Saturday in dominating fashion. Auzenne first won the 60-meter dash in 7.40 seconds, 0.22 seconds faster than the next two-finishers. She later captured the 60 hurdles in 8.28, outdistancing runner-up and teammate Sierra Brabham-Lawrence by 0.17 seconds (8.45). The 7.40 (altitude adjusted to 7.44) is the second-fastest time in the MW and 32nd fastest in the nation, while the 8.28 (altitude adjusted to 8.32) in the hurdles tops the league and ranks 14th in the country.
Draxler, meanwhile, came in second in the UCS Spirit Pole Vault Summit College I flight in Reno, Nev., on Saturday. Draxler cleared 13 feet, 3 ½ inches (4.05 meters), which tied Akron's Caroline Hasse for the best mark on the day. The 13-03.50 is the best in the MW this season.
The Aztecs return to competition on Jan. 29-30 at the UW Invitational in Seattle.
