SAN DIEGO - Three San Diego State football players have accepted invitations to play in senior all-star games. Offensive linemen Darrell Greene (Oakley, Calif.) and Pearce Slater (Los Angeles, Calif.) will play in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on Sat., Jan. 23 in Carson, Calif. and long snapper Jeff Overbaugh (Anchorage, Alaska) will compete in the Reese's Senior Bowl on Sat., Jan. 30 in Mobile, Ala.
The Reese's Senior Bowl and its practices are slated to broadcast on the NFL Network while the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will air on ESPN2, with practices on Jan. 20 and 21 broadcast on ESPNU.
Overbaugh, a Rubio Long Snapping College Second-Team All-American, was one of three Aztecs to play in all 53 games over the past four years (2012-15) and also one of three in school history to play in 53 games at SDSU. This season, he was perfect in snaps, going 156-for-156 (includes punt snaps, PAT snaps and field goal snaps). He also added two tackles and a fumble recovery on the year. For his career, Overbaugh was perfect in snaps (510-for-510), while recording six tackles and a fumble recovery. He was also a two-time MW Scholar-Athlete, three-time MW Fall All-Academic Team member and a winner of the SDSU's President's Award for High Academic Achievement, among many other academic accolades.
Slater, a first team All-Mountain West honoree and a team captain, started all 14 games for the Aztecs, while Greene started all seven of his appearances. The duo helped anchor an offensive line that allowed San Diego State to break the program's rushing yards (3,266) and rushing touchdowns in the Division I era (62) records, paving the way for two 1,000-yard rushers in the same season for the first time in program history. They helped lead a team that finished the season ranked fifth in the nation in red zone offense (94.1 pct.), 14th in rushing yards per game (233.3) and 17th in time of possession (32:43).
San Diego State matched a school record with 11 victories (11-3), culminating with a 42-7 win over Cincinnati in the Hawai'i Bowl on Dec. 24. The Aztecs won their second Mountain West title since 2012, first outright league championship since 1986 and 20th conference crown in program history.
