Storylines
- San Diego State returns home for the first time in 15 days on Friday to play host to UNLV at 7 p.m. PT atop SDSU Sports Deck. The Aztecs' homestand, which is a season-long three games, continues on Sunday when another Silver State school, Nevada, visits for a noon PT clash. Both contests will stream live at GoAztecs.com via the Mountain West Network and admission is free.
- SDSU enters the home weekend following a Mountain West-opening trip that saw it post a 1-1 record. The Aztecs fell short at Boise State, 2-1, to snap a pair of streaks. San Diego State had its six-game unbeaten streak in MW openers halted. SDSU was 4-0-2 in its previous six league lidlifters and were winners of three straight. The Broncos also put a stop to the Aztecs' eight-game regular-season road winning streak.
- San Diego State rebounded from the loss at Boise State with a 2-0 shutout of Utah State in Logan. Two days after freshman Milan Moses scored against the Broncos in the 86th minute, classmate Leah Pruitt got the Aztecs on the board against the Aggies in the 56th to record her third goal of the year and first game-winner. Junior Morgan Darling added an insurance tally in the 76th off a feed from fellow junior Jen Rupey. The goal and assist were each of the respective players' first of the season.
- With Moses and Pruitt each scoring last week, it created a four-way tie for the team lead in goals scored. The aforementioned duo, along with sophomores Angela Mitchell and Aliyah Utush, has scored three goals through nine games. Pruitt, however, leads the squad with 12 points thanks to her team-best six assists. Utush, meanwhile, has three helpers to her credit to get her to nine points on the year. Mitchell and Moses each have six points.
- Pruitt comes into the week having earned at least one point in three of her last four outings. During the stretch, she has two goals and three assists for seven of her 12 points for the year. The freshman posted a goal and two assists vs. USD, was shut out at UC Davis, had one assist at Boise State and added a goal at Utah State. Nearly 42 percent (.412) of her shots have come in her last four games (14 of 34).
- The Aztecs enter a month where they have had considerable success over the last six seasons. Since the 2009 campaign, San Diego State has posted a record of 36-7-3 (.815) in October. In games at SDSU Sports Deck, the Aztecs are 17-3-3 during the month (.804).
- SDSU will look to extend a modest five-game home unbeaten streak. The Aztecs are 4-0-1 at SDSU Sports Deck dating to last season and are 3-0 in 2015, while averaging 3.7 goals per game.
- San Diego State is facing a UNLV team that it has outperformed over the last several seasons. The Aztecs have won seven consecutive meetings vs. the Rebels, including the last three each by 3-0 margins. SDSU carries a 13-7 all-time series record vs. UNLV, including a 7-2 mark in San Diego. The Aztecs' last defeat to the Rebels occurred back in 2008 in America's Finest City.
- The SDSU-Nevada series is a relatively young one in terms of all-time meetings. San Diego State won the first two games in 2002 and 2003. When the Wolf Pack joined the Mountain West in 2012, the Aztecs continued their winning ways, claiming all three get-togethers. All told, SDSU is 5-0 vs. Nevada, including last year's 5-1 rout in Reno. San Diego State is 3-0 at home vs. Nevada, earning victories in 2003, 2012 and 2013.
- As mentioned earlier, San Diego State is beginning a three-game homestand starting with UNLV. Following Nevada on Sunday is Colorado State, which is set to step foot on The Mesa on Friday, Oct. 9. The three games, in fact, start a stretch where the Aztecs will play five of the next six at SDSU Sports Deck. After a trip to Wyoming on Oct. 11, San Diego State will close out its regular-season home schedule with Fresno State (Oct. 16) and San José State on Senior Day (Oct. 18). SDSU, however, is playing host to the Mountain West Championship on Nov. 3, 5 and 7.
