SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore defender Stacie Moran has been named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week. The Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week helped the Aztecs open the season with a 2-0 record with wins over Utah Valley and at No. 16/17 Kentucky.
Hailing from Alta Loma, Moran finished with a single-game career-high two assists in the 6-0 victory over Utah Valley on Friday. In both instances, Moran sent a long ball, one to Aliyah Utush and the other to Angela Mitchell, which resulted in the second and fifth goals of the game.
Two days later at Kentucky, Moran played the full 90 minutes for the second straight game and made numerous tackles that prevented the Wildcats from getting into an offensive rhythm. With her play along the defensive backline, SDSU held Kentucky to only three shots on goal and two corner kicks en route to the 2-0 decision.
The national team-of-the-week honor comes just one day after being named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week. It marked the second time she has earned the award during her time atop Montezuma Mesa. Freshman and high school teammate Leah Pruitt, meanwhile, was named the MW Offensive Player of the Week after posting one goal and three assists in her first two outings for the Scarlet and Black.
Moran and the Aztecs return to action on Saturday, Aug. 29, when they face California in Berkeley. The game is set for a 2 p.m. PT start and will air on Pac-12 Bay Area.
