SDSU Wonen's Basketball 2015 Non-Conference Schedule
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's basketball team will play host to the SDSU Thanksgiving Classic in late November, highlighting the squad's 2015 non-conference schedule released Friday by head coach Stacie Terry. In all, the Aztecs will remain in southern California for 10 of their 11 non-league contests, conducting seven games at Viejas Arena during that span.
After entertaining Point Loma for the second straight year in its lone exhibition tune-up on Friday, Nov. 6, SDSU will officially open the season with a busy stretch of three games over the ensuing six days, beginning with a Friday the 13th encounter against Long Beach State on the road. The Aztecs have not faced the 49ers in the Walter Pyramid since 2008, when they claimed a 67-59 victory.
The Aztecs will return to the friendly environs of Montezuma Mesa on Monday, Nov. 16 to battle UC Riverside, followed by another home clash against UC Irvine on Thursday, Nov. 19. Although SDSU had its three-game winning streak against the Highlanders snapped last year in Riverside, the Scarlet and Black still maintain a 5-3 advantage in the all-time series. Meanwhile, the Aztecs will entertain the Aggies for the first time since November 2006, when they logged a 59-52 decision at Viejas Arena.
After its mini-tour of the Big West Conference, San Diego State will make its lone excursion away from the Golden State prior to the holiday break on Monday, Nov. 23, when it travels to the Pacific Northwest to face Washington, a 2015 NCAA tournament participant. The Aztecs will be looking to avenge a 69-48 setback to the Huskies at home last season. SDSU made one prior visit to Seattle in 2012, dropping a tough 59-58 nail-biter.
The Aztecs will venture back to "America's Finest City" to lock horns with North Dakota State in the aforementioned SDSU Thanksgiving Classic on Friday, Nov. 27, which immediately follows the tournament opener between Wisconsin and Delaware. Their initial matchup will be the first-ever against the Bison, who finished sixth in the Summit League a year ago. After a day off, SDSU will cap off the weekend against another first-time opponent when it tackles Big Ten foe Wisconsin on Sunday, Nov. 29, while NDSU squares off against Delaware, a Colonial Athletic Association member.
The Aztecs will squeeze in three dates prior to final exams, starting Thursday, Dec. 3, when they renew acquaintances with crosstown adversary San Diego at Viejas Arena before embarking on a two-game road swing through the Los Angeles area.
On Monday, Dec. 7, SDSU will battle Cal State Northridge in the San Fernando Valley, looking to rebound from a 65-54 home loss last year to the Matadors, who are coming off back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances, while a visit to Loyola Marymount awaits the Scarlet and Black on Thursday, Dec. 10. Despite the relative proximity between the two schools, the Aztecs have faced the Lions just eight times in program history, winning on six occasions, including a 75-54 triumph in their most recent encounter at Gersten Pavilion in 2009.
After a nine-day hiatus to sweat out fall semester finals, SDSU puts the finishing touches on its non-conference ledger with a brief two-game homestand, beginning Saturday, Dec. 18, with a showdown against Cal State Fullerton, followed by a clash with nearby San Diego Christian on Monday, Dec. 21. The Aztecs have won six straight against their Orange County neighbors, the Titans, dating back to 1994, while the NAIA Hawks, members of the Golden State Athletic Conference, swoop down on Viejas Arena in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
For the third straight year, SDSU will play 18 Mountain West games in 2016, with the full conference schedule to be released at a later date.
