SDSU Tournament Notes vs. New Mexico
NEWS AND NOTES
* The seventh-seeded San Diego State women's basketball team will battle No. 2 seed New Mexico on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the 2015 Mountain West Championship, starting at 6 p.m. PT in Las Vegas, Nev.
* The Aztecs-Lobos clash will be broadcast live over the air by ESPN 1700 AM, with SDSU alumnus Chris Ello calling the action courtside from Thomas & Mack Center. In addition, a live video stream via The Mountain West Network will be available on GoAztecs.com.
* The two sides will be meeting for the third time this year after New Mexico swept the regular-season series. UNM posted a 62-53 decision in Albuquerque on Jan. 7 before coming away with a 63-47 triumph at Viejas Arena on Feb. 18. The Aztecs led at halftime in both games, but were outscored by a combined 74-40 in the second period.
* SDSU has faced the Lobos more than any other team in program history, with UNM maintaining a 30-25 lead in the all-time series.
* The Aztecs are 4-6 all-time against the Lobos in conference tournament play, including a 67-39 victory in the last postseason encounter between the two squads in the 2013 MW semifinals.
* The winner of Tuesday's showdown will face the victor of the Fresno State-Wyoming matchup on Wednesday, starting at 8:30 p.m. PT.
* SDSU is coming off a 70-48 triumph over 10th-seeded Nevada in the opening round on Monday. Individually, Erimma Amarikwa, McKynzie Fort, Ahjalee Harvey and Ariell Bostick recorded 10 points apiece to fuel the Aztec offense. As a team, the Scarlet and Black shot 57.7 percent from the field in the second half, outscoring the Wolf Pack 38-20 in the period to pull away for the win.
* With the victory, the Aztecs have now won four straight openers at the MW Championship and are 16-12 all-time in conference tournament lid-lifters.
* San Diego State has won 44 straight and has gone 74-1 since the beginning of the 2011-12 campaign when leading with five minutes left in the game. The Aztecs' lone blemish during that span occurred in a 59-58 heart-breaking loss at Washington on Dec. 5, 2012.
* Prior to the tournament opener on Monday, Erimma Amarikwa and McKynzie Fort garnered all-conference accolades in a vote of the league's head coaches. Amarikwa received honorable mention, while Fort earned a spot on the all-freshman team.
