SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore McKynzie Fort (Fontana, Calif.) has been named the Madness Mountain West Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games Dec.14-20, as announced Monday by the website CollegeSportsMadness.com.

In the Aztecs' 54-43 triumph over Cal State Fullerton at home last Saturday, Fort recorded the second-best scoring output of her career with a game-high 22 points, including 14 in the second half as the Scarlet and Black pulled away for the victory. The 5-9 guard matched her collegiate best with 10 field goals on 14 attempts (71.4 percent) and sank both free throws to help SDSU win for the fourth time in its last six games.

In addition, Fort came up with a trio of steals against the Titans, marking the fourth time in her last six outings she has posted three or more takeaways. The Etiwanda High alumna also grabbed three rebounds in her all-round effort and dished out two assists while completing her first game of the year without a turnover.

For the season, Fort is averaging a team-best 16.3 points and 2.4 steals per game, which rank fourth in the Mountain West. The squad's top rebounder (4.6/gm), Fort also occupies the eighth spot in the league with a .647 free-throw percentage and ranks 12th in field-goal shooting with a .496 clip from the floor overall.

Fort and the Aztecs wrap up their non-conference slate this evening with a home clash against San Diego Christian, starting at 6:30 p.m. PT. SDSU will then have eight days off for the Christmas holiday before opening MW play at Wyoming on Wednesday, Dec. 30.
