SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The San Diego State and University of San Diego baseball teams will square off in a neutral site contest when they meet on The Diamond at Lake Elsinore on Thursday, Feb. 25, at 6:00 p.m.
The facility is the home field for the Lake Elsinore Storm, the Class A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. The stadium played host to an NCAA Regional last May in which San Diego State participated. The Aztecs also played a contest on The Diamond in 2002 when it faced the Storm in an exhibition contest.
The SDSU-USD game is being held in conjunction with the Tony Gwynn Classic being hosted at both schools the weekend of Feb. 26-28. The contest is not part of the tournament, however, and is not included in San Diego State's baseball season ticket package.
Tickets for the contest will go on sale in early January and may be purchased through the Lake Elsinore Storm Ticket Office or on the Storm web site.
San Diego State returns five position starters and pair of starting pitchers from a team that finished with a 41-23 record last season and won its third consecutive Mountain West championship. The Aztecs advanced to the NCAA Regional for the third straight year, the first time it has accomplished that feat since the 1982-84 campaigns.
San Diego State will open its 2016 season on Friday, Feb. 19, at 6:00 p.m. when it hosts Oregon at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
